Why I Named My Blog ‘The F’d Up Life’ (And Why It’s Actually Biblical)

Ass is in the Bible.

Yes, you read that right—ass is in the Bible. We all know “ass” to be considered a curse word, BUT in biblical context, it’s not. It’s simply the word for donkey.

Now, what does that have to do with my blog and why am I writing about this? Simple… I had a few people express disdain for me naming my blog “The F’d Up Life” because—Lord forbid—it sounds like a curse word. But before I get into that, let me help you understand where this idea started.

When God Woke Me Up at 3 AM

I was up in the middle of the night, probably after 3 AM, when God inspired me with this blog idea. Originally, when the idea came to me, it was focused on the fact that I was making every area of my life better, and it just so happened that they all began with the letter F—faith, family, finances, friends, femininity, food, fitness. When it first came to me, I was ecstatic. I told my husband and he was just as excited.

But after some time, I started feeling uncomfortable about the whole situation—really, the fact that the blog name sounded like a curse word. I quickly didn’t want to do it anymore (and this was before anyone else had anything to say about it).

Time went by, and I remember driving down the road talking to the Lord about it. I was like, “God, I don’t want to do it.” I said, “Lord, there’s already enough controversy in the earth regarding leaders’ choices to do things that don’t seemingly reflect Your Kingdom or what it’s all about. There’s confusion in the body of Christ regarding how we’re supposed to show up and represent Christ, and I definitely don’t want to be part of the noise or mislead anyone.”

And that’s when I heard: “Ass is in the Bible.”

I was blown away! So I’m like, “Okay, but what does that mean, Lord?”

And it came to me: Context is everything.

The Divine Revelation

That’s when I heard: “F’d up means ‘from down to up.’”

I was floored because literally, if you take the letters F-D-U-P, it makes up the phrase (F)rom (D)own to (Up) – F’d Up. That’s literally the meaning! It encapsulates the message so well that I felt more confident to move forward.

The Test Came

But then something happened. One day while I was working, I received a phone call from one of my friends. We were just talking, and she was asking me questions about what I was doing, so I was sharing what was going on in my life.

I was so excited about the blog that I brought it up. I made sure to include the fact that I initially didn’t want to do it because of it seemingly being a curse word, but how I had an encounter with the Holy Spirit who brought me clarity and gave me confidence to move forward with this revelation.

After I finished sharing, she was quiet for a second, then jumped in: “I don’t think that was God, because that is a curse word. Why would you want to imply that?” and on and on.

I felt angry because I was hurt. Everything I just shared with her wasn’t enough to convince her that this was of God. I wanted her to understand. I wanted the context I provided to help her see that the name wasn’t a curse word and that it had another meaning, but that wasn’t enough for her.

They tell you not to tell people your ideas before you launch them, but I’m glad I did because I was confronted with backlash even after I explained the context. This made me face a very difficult decision: Will I move forward even if people don’t agree or understand?

Well! Here we are!

Let’s Talk About What Really Is a “Curse Word”

A curse word is fundamentally a word of negativity—the opposite of a blessing. Synonyms include: profane, obscene, irreverent. But here’s the thing—context determines meaning.

Even Jesus’s words were seen as profane, especially when He claimed to be God. The Pharisees were so offended they screamed, “Blasphemy!” Yet we know Jesus spoke only truth and love.

My Heart Behind This Blog

Let me be clear: My goal here is not to convince you otherwise. You are free to be offended by whatever you choose to be offended by. My goal is to provide context so you can understand my meaning behind naming this blog “The F’d Up Life.”

This blog was not written for the religious—it’s for those who have or are seeking a deeper relationship with Christ. It’s for people who have taken inventory of their lives and realized that it doesn’t reflect Christ wholly and want to make the change to see total transformation in every area of their life.

Don’t Miss the Message for the Name

It would be foolish to argue over this because if you truly look at my message, you’ll begin to understand that the context is not to be offensive or vulgar. My objective is to address real-life issues that people are facing on a day-to-day basis—issues affecting masses of believers—so they can do what Scripture teaches:

“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
– Philippians 3:13-14

The Bottom Line

“The F’d Up Life” is about going from down to up in every area of your life—faith, family, finances, friends, femininity, food, fitness, and more. It’s about honest assessment, godly transformation, and pressing toward the prize.

If the name offends you, I understand. But I pray you won’t miss the life-changing message because you’re hung up on the packaging.

After all, God used a donkey (yes, an ass) to speak His truth in Numbers 22. He can use an unconventional blog name too.

Context is everything. And in this context, we’re going from down to up—together.
